I, Donette Poe, graduated from Hunter College in New York in 1996, achieving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sciences/ English Literature. I participated in various programs while in college. I worked in Student Government as a student senator, as an office manager at Day Student Services, as a computer lab assistant for Evening Student Services, and as an academic counselor for the Student Resource Center.
Currently, I am employed by the Salvation Army of Greater NY, as a Data Entry specialist, in the Social Services Dept.
I participated in the Kids Unique spectrum program, in the Spring of 2004. I worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for their after school program at FLI (Future Leadership Institute) on 122 Street in Harlem, for grades 4 thru 6 with a class of 20 students. I also participated in the after school program at the Children's Aid Society's (Frederick Douglas Center 883 Columbus Ave. in Harlem. It has 18-22 young adolescents (12&13 yr olds) with primarily African American and some Caribbean American and Latino backgrounds. They live mostly in or around the neighborhood in the Frederick Douglass Houses. They attend several different schools on the upper west side and their school performances range across the board, but a lot of them read under grade level. The KU Visual Intelligence Program was a basic art program where volunteers from visual art, fine art and graphic art fields teach art skills to the students, with a computer skill component combined.
At various times during the year, I volunteer and participate in other Non Profit organizations. The Arthritis walk and Lupus walk are the major ones that I have a special interest in. I am an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. since the Fall of 2003. As a member, I have been continually inspired to work and grow within the organization and to help breathe life into new ideas to help our communities.
